Rumney is THE sport climbing area in the northeast US. Located in central New Hampshire on the southern edge of the White Mountains, Rumney provides excellent climbing on hard schist rock. The area provides mostly short, single pitch routes at all grades. Some super classics at Rumney include Jolt (10a), Waimea (10d), Flying Hawaiian (11b), Black Mamba (11b/c), Technosurfing (12b) and Giant Man (12b), as well as the super hard Predator (13b) and infamous China Beach (14b).
Places to stay: Rattlesnake Mountain Campground (literally right across the street from the crag); Baker River Campground (a few miles down Buffalo Road); D Acres Organic Farm (Has a hostel that offers beds, indoor sleeping, and camping; great breakfast with super fresh ingredients from the farm): http://www.dacres.org/
Places to eat: There are a number of options both in Rumney and neighboring Plymouth: Plain Jane’s Diner, Thai Smile, The Common Man Inn, Lucky Dog Tavern and Grill.
Getting there: Rumney is accessible from many New England airports, particularly Manchester, NH (1h) and Boston, MA (2h).
Guidebook: Rumney by Ward Smith (2009)
I have a question, is it possible to make a reservation at the Rattlesnake Mountain campground or is it only first one there get’s a place if there is place left?
Thanks
